GitHub Enterprise Server 3.21 generally available: organization properties, 300+ Actions jobs, and a new REST API

GitHub announced the general availability of GitHub Enterprise Server 3.21 on June 11, 2026 — the latest version of the self-hosted source code management platform for large organizations and enterprises. The new version delivers improvements in project visibility, organization metadata management, CI/CD pipeline scalability, and secret scanning security.

What does GitHub Enterprise Server 3.21 bring?

Version 3.21 spans five key improvement areas: organization metadata management through custom properties, better project hierarchy visibility, Actions workflow scalability for complex pipelines with more than 300 jobs, improved secret scanning management, and a new REST API with multi-year backward compatibility. Support for multiple data disks rounds out the release.

Custom organization properties

Custom organization properties are generally available in version 3.21. Enterprise administrators can tag organizations with metadata and use those tags for automatic enterprise-level ruleset targeting.

An organization tagged as type: production can automatically receive stricter branch protection rules, while type: sandbox organizations can have more relaxed constraints — all without manual configuration for each organization separately. This flexibility significantly reduces administrative overhead in environments with large numbers of organizational units, which is especially useful for enterprises with dozens or hundreds of teams.

Hierarchy view in project tables

The hierarchy view feature is now available directly inside project table views. Users can browse the full issue hierarchy without leaving the project view, providing better visibility into task dependencies and overall progress on complex projects with multiple planning and delivery levels.

Actions workflow scalability for 300+ jobs

GitHub Enterprise Server users with extensive CI/CD systems have encountered limits when rendering workflow pages with large numbers of jobs. Version 3.21 solves this: workflow pages now successfully render flows with more than 300 jobs through the implementation of lazy loading. Additionally, users can filter jobs by status — failed, in progress, completed, and others — directly on the workflow page, significantly accelerating diagnostics and troubleshooting in production environments.

Improved secret scanning management

Secret scanning in version 3.21 receives enhanced permissions at two levels: alert-level and enterprise-level. These upgrades bring more precise control over custom pattern management and push protection bypasses, giving security teams better visibility and oversight of sensitive data management across all repositories.

New REST API and multiple data disk support

GitHub Enterprise Server 3.21 introduces a new REST API version labeled 2026-03-10, which includes breaking changes. The previous API version labeled 2022-11-28 remains supported for at least 24 months from this release date, giving organizations sufficient time for planned and controlled migration.

Multiple data disk support for MySQL and repository data is now generally available for standalone and high-availability topologies.
