AWS: Claude Platform now GA — first cloud provider with native Anthropic access through an AWS account

AWS has announced general availability of Claude Platform on AWS, positioning itself as the first cloud provider to offer native access to Anthropic’s platform directly through an existing AWS account. The service differs from Amazon Bedrock — which offers models as a service — by granting access to the full Anthropic platform: Messages API, Claude Managed Agents (beta), web search and fetch tools, code execution, Files API (beta), MCP connector (beta), and Agent Skills (beta).

Authentication through IAM and auditing

Users authenticate with existing AWS IAM credentials rather than a separate Anthropic account. All activity is captured in AWS CloudTrail, meaning teams can monitor and audit calls to the Claude platform using the same tools they use for the rest of their AWS infrastructure. As the announcement notes, “the underlying requests and data are processed outside the AWS security boundary” — something development teams must consider in data residency assessments.

Billing through Marketplace, 19+ regions

Billing flows through AWS Marketplace on a consumption basis, consolidating AI spend with other cloud costs in a single invoice. The platform operates in more than 19 regions, covering North and South America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific.

Three steps to first integration

Setup follows three steps: creating a workspace, choosing an authentication method (IAM credentials or classic API keys), and making calls through the provided SDKs. For AWS organizations already managing AI integrations, this removes the step of negotiating a separate Anthropic contract — something that at larger companies often took weeks through procurement.

What this means for the AWS-Anthropic relationship

The GA of Claude Platform on AWS confirms the strategic direction of the two companies: AWS gains exclusivity on native distribution of Anthropic’s full stack among cloud providers, while Anthropic gains access to AWS’s enterprise customer base without investing in its own procurement apparatus. Competing teams on Azure and Google Cloud can currently use Claude only through narrower API integrations.
